The next chapter in my How To Knit book is lace. I absolutely intend to master (well, attempt and try and gain a certain proficiency) all the techniques in my book and have been meaning to begin for a while. I bought the yarn. I bought the pattern. I got the Fear.
But I have been reassured by numerous people, and one in particular, that is it Not That Hard. I had a practise with some sock yarn which went ok and then spent over an hour winding my laceweight posh yarn in to a ball (while watching Apollo 13) and have begun. I will put it on to my circs when I've got the hang of it a bit better, I thought it would be easier to start on straights. It is early days yet, but so far there has been no tears or whimpering, or even very much terror.

Well, that looks like it's going to be beautiful! I love the colour!
If I could impart one lesson I would say, try to learn how the pattern looks as you go along - ie where in the pattern you YO or ssk or whatever - then if your stitches are out you should notice quite quickly (generally before an incorrect row is finished)
Have fun with it, it will be stunning! (hope blogger will let me post this comment I've had trouble lately!)
Looking good so far, and the colour of the yarn is stunning. Oh, you're going to love it (especially the blocking bit, lace blocking is so magical).
My little tip, for what its worth, is never to knit lace when you're tired. Recipe for disaster. Good luck, although it looks like you're doing just fine :-)
It already looks wonderful. I love the colour. I think it will be stunning. My advice...do a liveline!!
You are doing well, that looks great ... as sylvie said, lifelines are good.
Looks like you've made a fantastic start.
I agree with the other tips, and also to make sure that you have some "quiet time" when knitting lace, it's so easy to get distracted and then go wrong.
Good luck!!
Very purty :)
